DIY Mini Xmas tree

We love this mini Christmas tree complete with baubles and fairy lights we spotted on Helena Lyth's blog.

All you need is simply a small potted tree, mini baubles, battery driven fairy lights and a glass dome. Just hide the little battery pack behind the pot for easy access and pop the dome on top, and voila!

DIY Chairs

We love a bargin so imagine our delight when we spotted these old unloved chairs left out on the street. We brought them home, got some sandpaper and black glossy paint and in a few easy steps they were as good as new.

This is what the chairs looked like when we found them

Step 1 – Sand the old varnish off as much as you can, this is the most boring part of the job but it is important to get the old varnish off for the new paint to stick. We didn't do a perfect job as we decided a few hours of sanding is enough!

Step 2 – Now the fun part - painting!

Step 3 – After the chairs where dry enough (about 6 hours) we did a second coat to get that really glossy look

Tada! The chairs are done and passed the cat inspection with flying colours

Back To School

Chalkboard paint is a great way add a stylish feature wall to a room or a piece of furniture that you can personalise. We love these ideas of using them to write down notes, recipes and to get artistic.

I painted a section of my wall in the kitchen for reminders and to doodle on! The chalkboard paint pots are from Anthropology, perfect for storing and labelling cooking ingredients. I also painted the mirror as I love the black frame against the white wall.

From Pallet To Table

It may not seem obvious but wooden pallets can be turned into great pieces of furniture. Our friend Jake created this fantastic vintage looking table using one pallet and transformed it by painting it teal. With a left over piece he made a shelf, perfect for displaying candles and books.

I found a blue pallet left on the street, after giving it a wash and sanding it down I attached some large wheels (from my local DIY shop) to create a side table. The draw came from an old unit that luckily fitted to give the finishing touch. Next time you see an old abandoned pallet see if you can turn it into something unique!

Step To It

Step ladders and ladders look great as shelves and storage units and can be snapped up for a bargain in most DIY stores. By thinking outside the box you can turn a simple item into a unique way of storing your books and trinkets. I got mine (bottom picture) from IKEA for a mere £11 which acts as the perfect bedside table.
